POLITICIANS are working together to press for a new Ramsbottom to Manchester commuter rail link.
Bury North MP David Chaytor has joined forces with Janet Anderson, Rossendale MP and tourism minister, to link a new Metrolink station in Bury with the East Lancs Railway.
Tram bosses have agreed to do a feasibility study on the plan and will hold a further meeting this summer with the MPs, ELR chiefs and both councils.
The new Bury South tram station at Buckley Wells is part of the £289 million expansion of Metrolink across Greater Manchester.
Mr Chaytor said: "Such a link would bring enormous benefits to Ramsbottom and Summerseat residents.
"It would reduce traffic on the M66 and other commuter routes, and give a boost to tourism."
