A BREWERY is staying tight-lipped over its plans for a Blackburn town centre pub where the publican was found dead.

A spokesman for Blackburn-based brewery Daniel Thwaites said bosses would not reveal their plans for the Star and Garter in Railway Road, which has remained closed since the death last week.

Mr Stewart, 54, was found hanging after a group of worried friends forced their way into the premises on Friday afternoon.

He rook over as landlord just over two years ago when he moved from Birmingham and spoke of having big plans for the pub.

Mr Stewart married girlfriend Sharon, of Newton Street, Darwen, soon after he moved in but the couple have since split up.

It is believed that Mr Stewart, who has a daughter and three grandchildren still living in the Midlands, was depressed about a number of things and had also incurred rising debts during his time at the pub.

A spokesman for Thwaites went on: "We do not wish to comment on any aspect of the Star and Garter out of respect for the family.

"We do not wish to comment on Mr Stewart or the future of the pub."

Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley coroner Michael Singleton has been informed of the death.
