MEMBERS of the Guide Association from all parts of the North West enjoyed more activities than you can shake a tent pole at, including media workshops provided by our Newspapers in Education project.
The Millepede 2000 Camp at Waddow Hall, Clitheroe, gave hundreds of girls a taste of creative and high-tech activities as well as more energetic outdoor pursuits.
A daily delivery of packs of our newspaper, along with our Pick and Mix literacy and numeracy resource, ensured that they were kept up to date with local and national events.
Our NIE Co-ordinator Rita Shaw joined in the fun, challenging six groups to create their own pages using items found in copies of our newspaper, and to finish by deadline.
The Millepede Mail and the Guiding Gazette were just two of the titles created as editors kept their "staff" on target to complete the tasks.
The Pick and Mix educational resource is one of a range of material offered by our NIE project to schools and groups within our circulation area and includes the option of additional workshops and activities run, free of charge, by our NIE coordinator.
For more information on our NIE material, including our one-off, brand new Literacy Resource for KS1 and KS2 and English/Media Resource for KS3 and KS4, contact Rita Shaw on 01254 678678, ext. 255, or look out for our mailshot in your own school.
