WITH just one pre-season friendly left before the big kick-off, Leigh RMI are still in the hunt for players.
And once again it's a former Bolton Wanderers favourite who heads the list.
Winger David Lee has been released by Wigan Athletic and although Lee has other offers in the pipeline, RMI cannot be ruled of the equation just yet.
RMI assistant manager Dave Miller said: "We have spoken to David a couple of times and we are certainly in his thoughts.
"I am sure he would do us a fantastic job in the Conference but we have reached a wait and see point and we will have to keep our fingers crossed."
Miller has been taking care of business while manager Steve Waywell has been on holiday, but Waywell will take charge tomorrow night for the Charity Challenge Shield.
It is the UniBond champions against the Challenge Cup winners which translates to Leigh entertaining Lancaster City. Waywell will receive a full report of the friendlies he has missed before sanctioning the signing of Gary Scott.
The young full back has been training with Southport after leaving Marine. "We had a good work out on Tuesday and he was up there with the best of them," added Miller.
With the first Nationwide Conference game, at home to Dagenham and Redbridge, only a week away, time for experimentation is quickly running out, RMI need to be settled in a system and with the right personnel, so when the curtain goes up, they can hit the ground running.
