A PRESTON councillor is calling for a boycott on a new energy drink following a string of 'shocking and indecent' TV advertisements featuring ex-soccer hard man Vinnie Jones killing a bird.
Liberal Democrat Alan Valentine has urged the British Advertising Standards Authority to pull the ad for the drink, Red Devil, from our screens.
The advert shows the star filling a bird seed holder for a hungry robin but deliberately leaving the door open.
It ends with the bird flying out and into a closed window with Vinnie Jones grinning and grasping a can of Red Devil.
Coun Valentine stormed: "Every week we learn that our bird population is in decline. Then we see a national celebrity deliberately luring a robin to its death. It's cruel and I'm appalled."
Coun Valentine has also sent a strongly-worded e-mail to the American drinks manufacturer in Chicago.
Grahame Madge, from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, said they had received numerous complaints from consumers and that all are being passed on to the ITC.
He said: "TV ads like these are very unhelpful as birds flying in to closed windows is a real problem."
