TESTS are being carried out to discover what Ian Patrick Hall injected himself with the day before he died.
Mr Hall, 29, of Manor Street, Nelson, was found there on Monday.
An inquest into his death was opened in Burnley yesterday when his mother, Christine Hall, of Sackville Street, Nelson, told East Lancashire Coroner David Smith she was unaware he may have been involved in drugs. Mrs Hall said her son, an out-of-work builder, had not been in good health for the last couple of years. He had lived with his girlfriend, Amanda Robinson, for about 18 months, but she saw him every day.
In the early hours of Monday Amanda's dad telephoned her to tell her what had happened.
Mr Smith asked: "Have you been told of the circumstances that he injected an unknown quantity of something the previous day?"
He added: "We are awaiting the result of analysis on samples which have been sent to the toxicology unit at Manchester.
"This takes about six weeks minimum and we shall not have the cause of death until we get those back."
The hearing was adjourned until the test results are available.
He added that in the meantime police were making inquiries into the tragedy.
