LENNIE JOHNROSE and Dean West are set to miss Saturday's League opener at Bolton Wanderers as the Clarets run into an injury pile-up on the eve of the new season.
Chris Brass is also under treatment for a knee injury which will rule him out of contention.
And with striker Andy Payton certain to miss the Reebok Stadium trip with his fractured toe, Burnley will start the new campaign with four senior squad members missing.
However, boss Stan Ternent confirmed today that winger Glen Little had suffered no reaction following his return to action on Tuesday night and should be okay for Burnley's Division One bow.
West has picked up a lower back strain, while midfield man Johnrose injured a knee in the Clarets' final warm-up game at Rochdale last Friday night which will restrict Ternent's options for the Bolton clash.
Wanderers will also be without a clutch of players, including summer signing Michael Ricketts.
The £250,000 buy from Walsall is suspended after being sent off in a reserve game at the end of last season.
And bans carried over from Bolton's play-off semi-final defeat to Ipswich also cost them the services of defenders Mike Whitlow and Robbie Elliott.
Elliott (groin) is injured in any case and he joins Dean Holdsworth (shoulder) Ricardo Gardner (knee) and Jimmy Phillips (knee) on the treatment table.
In addition youngsters Dean Holden (leg) and Kevin Nolan (wrist) are nursing broken bones. That said, Bolton boss Sam Allardyce will be able to call on four new signings including Danish international midfielder Per Frandsen, who returned to the Reebok Stadium for £1.5 million after his ill-fated spell at Blackburn Rovers.
He is likely to partner Frenchman Franck Passi in central midfielder after the 32-year-old former Monaco player was re-signed.
At the back, full-backs Simon Charlton, a Bosman signing from Birmingham City, and Anthony Barness, who came from Charlton Athletic under freedom of contract, are set to make their debuts either side of Mark Fish and Gudni Bergsson.
And former Blackburn Rovers' reserve team skipper Leam Richardson could start on the bench following his £50,000 move from Ewood Park.
Bolton's Blackburn connection is completed by Paul Warhurst, who looks set to be pushed into an emergency striking role alongside Bo Hansen.
Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion have completed the £450,000 signing of Toulouse's former Rangers midfielder Derek McInnes, who attracted interest from the Clarets but no firm bid over the summer.
