COUNCILLORS have backed a national charity in its campaign to introduce counselling and support for abused and bullied children into schools.
The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children has launched a bid to provide an independent scheme offering counselling, advice and support for youngsters in all schools.
Ribble Valley Borough Council's policy and finance committee members backed the idea.
But the councillors have had to refer the details of the campaign to Lancashire County Council for approval.
The charity's recommendations are that each council assesses the level of need for counselling services in their area and liaises with private and voluntary organisations, that services are integrated into existing programmes for young people and that any schemes are co-ordinated and overseen nationally.
