HAVE you got what it takes to become one of the borough's ten new Community Safety Wardens?
A recruitment drive has begun for Bury's expanded safety force.
At the moment there are 16 wardens in service, patrolling town centres offering a helping hand to locals and visitors alike as well as playing a part in assisting police to tackle crime and vandalism.
But a number of the 12-month contracts are coming to an end and ten new wardens are needed. Warden project manager, Mr Ged McGee said: "The job is a rewarding and worthwhile one which offers the chance to be part of a successful team. It gives those who have been long term unemployed the opportunity to return to work and receive first class, relevant training which can and does have a positive influence on future career prospects. At the same time it is possible to be involved in really helping to improve our community."
Council leader, Coun Derek Boden, added: "Since they first took to our streets the Community Safety Wardens have been popular with everyone. I am sure that there will be no shortage of potential recruits."
Those interested in finding out more information about how to join the Community Safety Wardens should telephone for an information pack and application form now, on 253 6181. Alternatively call into the Warden's office at 76 The Rock, on the first floor above Lunn Poly, in Bury or your local Job Centre. The closing date for applications is Tuesday, August 22, and training will begin in mid-September.
