AFTER reading the Interactive squad's article in the Star (July 27) I am beginning to wonder just what people want.

Don't they realise that all these extra activities will eventually come out of taxpayers money - and probably lead to an increase in Council Tax (for those of us who pay it).

At the end of Bridge Street, a new cinema complex is taking shape, and will house 11 screens I believe. Next to it, will be a bar and restaurant, which I am sure will tempt many a palate.

The empty space left by the old cinema is going to be night club (preferably with artistes - not a place for youngsters who can go to the Plaza or similar).

Also, it seems to me that the younger generation have no imagination whatsoever. Seeing as the majority of homes now house computers and video recorders, surely the library, and hire shops can cater for most people's requirements. The SmithKline Beecham building is open to the younger generation on a Saturday morning, where they might learn something. Or is this beyond their capabilities?

Instead of whinging, why don't the young people get off their backsides and do something in the community -- like getting our local papers delivered, and earn themselves a few bob into the bargain -- or are they workshy? With regards to 'dirty' buses, it is the young people themselves who are responsible more often than not with pop cans all over the place, spraying deodorants everywhere, and writing on the seats! The kids today haven't lived. They should have been around when I was at school. We once had a bus strike for seven weeks. How would today's generation have coped with that?

With regard to bus fares, petrol tax is a lot to do with this. If the fares were lower, more people would be inclined to support public transport and leave the cars at home. Instead, the companies are robbing Peter to pay Paul, with the consequence that they are losing money because of lack of passenger support. 'Dump the Pump' and go to work on a bus -- it makes sense.
