SHOPPERS in Leyland could be in for a real treat if council officials give the go-ahead for another retail and leisure complex.
The scheme, planned for Southern Towngate opposite the future Tesco site, is dependant on the council finding a developer to make them an offer on the land before the end of the year.
And if a developer is found, the existing leisure centre could be given a complete overhaul.
Councillor Cliff Hughes, the cabinet member whose responsibilities include Leyland town centre, said: "I am confident, based on work to date, that the council will attract developers able to deliver the best arrangements for Leyland in particular and South Ribble in general and, just as importantly, make a positive contribution towards the refurbishment of the leisure centre."
But as officials discuss these exciting proposals, motorists are being forced to find alternative parking arrangements in another part of town as work begins on the transformation of the Grundy Street car park.
The site will form the extension of a major new retail development on the second phase of the former 'gas works site', which already houses major names such as Lidl and McDonald's.
