ONE of the region's top visitor attractions enjoyed summer sunshine when the organisers held their annual Woodland Open Day.
This year's spectacular event at Beacon Fell Country Park was bigger and better than ever before, with hundreds of day-trippers searching for fun in the sun.
All visitors were treated to a whole host of interesting activities to keep them occupied, including forestry demonstrations, tree felling, harvesting and a mobile saw mill, which showed spectators what happens to some of the park's trees.
And curious youngsters even had the chance to try their hand at archery and bird box constructing, as well as witnessing various stick making demonstrations.
Visitors were also offered the unique opportunity of helping create native British woodland, by planting a tree to replace the harvested conifers.
And on hand to speak to budding wildlife enthusiasts were representatives from the Lancashire Badger Group, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the Wirral Guild of Ferreters.
Spokesperson for Beacon Fell, Helen Singleton, said: "The event was a very big success and lots of people turned up. Luckily the sun stayed shining and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves."
