POLICE investigating the murder of a woman whose body was found in a field off the Rainford by-pass six years ago have re-newed a plea for information.
The body of 23-year-old Julie Finney from Liverpool was discovered in a carrot field on August 6, 1994 by a passing cyclist taking part in time trials in the area. Julie had been last seen alive at about 11.15pm the previous evening in Pembroke Place, Liverpool at the rear of the University Teaching Hospital, when she was spotted running towards a man standing near a bus stop.
Now detectives are making a fresh appeal for information on the sixth anniversary of her death as the motive for Julie's death still remains unclear.
Detective Chief Inspector Francis Youell, who is heading the investigation, is particularly keen to trace the occupants -- possibly a courting couple who do not want to be found out -- of a white van seen in a lay-by near to where the body was found. He assures them that the matter will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
He is also keen to trace a woman calling herself Tina, who was on honeymoon at the time of the murder, who contacted detectives at the time and explained that Julie had told her she was going to meet a taxi driver from Prescot on the evening of her death.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
