Firefighters blamed an electric kettle for a blaze at a house in Scholes Street, Darwen, yesterday.
Neighbours alerted the emergency services after they saw smoke billowing from the house shortly after 4pm.
Two engines attended the blaze and found the kitchen well alight. The occupants were out at the time.
The kitchen was said to be severely damaged by fire, with the rest of the house suffering damage from the smoke.
