CHERRY Tree's faltering Jennings Ribblesdale League title bid can ill afford another set-back tomorrow.

So they will be hoping to put the brakes on Earby's free-scoring professional Jonathan Harvey, who last weekend became the first batsman to pass 1,000 league runs for the season.

Harvey took an undefeated 177 off the Settle attack and then plundered 99 against Barnoldswick as Eearby collected a win-double.

And he doesn't plan to slow down with last season's run total of 1,244 now in his sights.

"Every year I have done better than the year before. At some stage that isn't going to happen but hopefully I am going to do better than last summer," said Harvey, who is in discussions with Earby about extending his stay at Applegarth. It was a remarkable weekend for the Harvey family with Mark hitting 82 and 113 without losing his wicket as Great Harwood went second in the table.

Jonathan was pleased to see his brother in the runs but proud to be the first man to the four-figure mark.

"It's nice to be the first," he said. "You set yourself targets but if someone had said with six games to that I would be in front of people like Shahid Nawaz, Peter Sleep and Surendra Bhave I wouldn't have believed you.

With Harvey bang in form and Earby going into tomorrow's game at Preston Old Road on the back of four straight wins, Cherry Tree won't find it easy to start closing the 14-point gap on leaders Ribblesdale Wanderers.

Barnoldswick v Oswaldtwistle Immanuel, Blackburn Northern v Edenfield, Cherry Tree v Earby, Clitheroe v Padiham, Great Harwood v Settle, Ribblesdale Wanderers v Settle, Whalley v Read.
