WORLD Superbike winner Neil Hodgson switches his attention to the domestic championship this weekend, vowing: "The British Superbike title is my number one priority."
The 26-year-old Burnley rider is currently enjoying a rich vein of form, as demonstrated by his sensational wild card victory at Brands Hatch last weekend.
It was the second time Hodgson has tasted success on the world stage this year, but winning the British title remains his objective. And the INS Ducati team leader heads for Knockhill in Scotland tomorrow intent on extending his lead in the series.
"Obviously, the spotlight's going to be on me at Knockhill and I like it that way," said Hodgson. "The World Superbike wins at Donington and Brands Hatch have been fantastic for the team, but I feel more pressure racing in the domestic championship week in, week out, because I want to win the title. Hodgson can expect a tough time from the Scottish contingency that historically provides a strong challenge around the technically demanding 1.3 mile circuit.
Virgin Yamaha rider Steve Hislop has been among the frontrunners this season, and despite a horrific accident at Brands Hatch which saw him knocked out and taken to hospital, the 37-year-old former champion will definitely race at his home track.
But Hodgson and team-mate Niall Mackenzie are in confident mood, following a successful test at Knockhill last month, where both men improved their personal best lap times. "The test session went really well and has put us in a confident frame of mind for the weekend," added Hodgson.
"We've already done several race distances and have got some good settings as a result, so we'll arrive in Scotland in a strong position for Sunday's two races."
