FOR the second week running Ruberoid Sutton Cricket Club were frustrated by opposition intent on avoiding defeat.
They travelled Prestatyn in a top-of-the-table clash. Skipper Ian Greener lost the toss and Sutton were asked to bat first. It was always going to be difficult on a damp wicket but Sutton battled and a quickfire 44 from Ian Greener helped them declare on 154-9 from 50 overs.
However, Prestatyn decided that this was too much for them and decided to bat 48 overs for 72-4 at the close of play to draw.
The Second XI played Prestatyn at New Street. Sutton fielded first and fought well to restrict the visitors to 172-9 declared with Ste Moss being the pick of the bowlers.
Sutton were up with the required rate for most of the game but slowed towards the end of the last twenty to finish on 135-7 and draw the game. Brian Wearden 37, Stuart Rimmer 35 and skipper Mark Reynolds 23 not out were the best batsmen.
The Third XI played Eccleston at Bobbies Lane on Sunday. Sutton lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a very lively track. Sutton struggled and were 98 all out a score that Eccleston reached for the loss of 3 wickets, though Suttons catching could have been better.
Congratulations are due to under 13 Danny Appleton who made 102 not out against Liverpool on Sunday.
He received a signed bat from the Indian select team who had been playing at Sutton that afternoon..
Meanwhile, Gary Greener and Danny are playing from the Merseyside County team.
