ECCLESTON romped to a comfortable victory against Liverpool outfit Goodlass at Bobbies Lane on Saturday.
Losing the toss Eccleston were put into bat. Openers Johnson (20) and Massey made a steady start, but with the loss of two wickets Michael Manley came to the crease and the fireworks started.
He smashed the Goodlass bowlers all over the ground to a magnificent 111 not out. Aided by Smith (12) and Gornall (23). This helped Eccleston to 186-5 at the end of their innings. The Goodlass bowling was shared between Byrne 3-39 and Smith 2-54.
When Goodlass came to the crease they were tied down by some very accurate Eccleston bowling and were all out for 65, giving Eccleston a comfortable victory. The Eccleston bowlers were R Creak 4-24, K Holden 3-10, M Gornall 2-8 and a very respectable 1-18 from 12 overs from A Elliott.
On Sunday Eccleston's opponents were Sutton. Put into bat Sutton's batters had to face some very good Eccleston bowling to achieve a total of 98 all out. Top score for Sutton was E Lanchin 23 with Moss 14, J Clarke 14 and G Clarke 13 contributing. Assisting the good bowling was some quite good fielding with the catch of the day taken by David Ellis from out of the clouds. Eccleston's bowling was shared between Gornall 3-18, Burrows 2-10 and Mick Devereux 2-9.
When Eccleston came to the crease a blistering start by Devereux (38) helped to steer Eccleston to victory with the help of Cross 19 not out and French 17 not out who hit the winning runs to see Eccleston through to 102-3.
The Sutton bowling was shared by Laithwaite 1-20, Lanchin 1-16 and Moss 1-14.
