AT the last election Sir, we, the Blackpool public, voted for a Labour council to represent us and our needs in the town -- hence your position today.
In return for our votes you took on this job of representing us
and also being accountable to us for the way you spend our money.
Now, myself and thousands of other voters like myself are asking you to stand by your pledge and listen to, and work for, the people of Blackpool.
It is with that in mind that I now ask that you kindly make available to the press as soon as possible a full financial breakdown of the alleged costs to renovate the six council homes for the elderly that you keep saying need closing very urgently.
Please, do not offer any excuses at this stage. No more sayings such as "People are choosing to stay in their own homes", or that two hours per day of community care is the answer to these problems, or that it's cheaper to re-house the residents in the private sector, or any of the other bleatings we have been subjected to. You have done all that and quite frankly it has all been a very poor attempt to fool the public. So I ask you to please stick to the one question and provide answers. How was the costing of around £4 million to be urgently spent on these homes arrived at? Why has the costing been kept so secret? And why have numerous builders and surveyors not been asked to substantiate these claims and allowed to present their own costing? By what standards has the costing been measured against?
As we all know, the government does not wish anything at all to be done speedily. In fact, if anything has to be adjusted, then I believe seven years is the time allowed by general government. So why the rush?
We also have proof that all the homes were told not to admit any permanent residents. This was ordered many months ago. So all this nonsense that the homes are under occupied will not wash any more. In fact, you have run out of excuses. You must now listen to the Blackpool public. We now all await your response in the local press. Please do not ignore this as you have done previously. The public demand you make known the costings.
