MR Chaytor (Your Letters, August 1) asks what would be at the top of the Tory "hit list" if they regain power.

May I suggest that Alastair Campbell and his team of Special Advisers should be first to go?

Having studied politics, I was always of the belief that it was the duty of the Opposition to criticise the Government and not the other way round.

Could Mr Chaytor tell why this government spends so much of its time criticising the Opposition? Is it because figures produced by ministers are not worth shouting about once the truth has been "spun" out of them?
