SINGLES
VERTICAL HORIZON: Everything You Want, (RCA) -- Fresh from America, Vertical Horizon are expected to storm the charts with their debut single released later this month. Sounding vaguely like Del Amitri, who had hits by the bucketload, Vertical Horizon have created a chill-out tune which combines a full-band style of music with some excellent lyrics. (8/10) DH
ANGELICA: Take Me I'm Your Disease (Fantastic Plastic) -- Following the success of last year's feline drama anthem Why Did You Let My Kitten Die, and more recently the vitriolic Bring Back Her Head, the indie punkettes are back. Despite being much less in-your-face than their previous singles, the girls are still following in the footsteps of the likes of Kenickie. Infectious, witty punk anthems are what earned them their name and they should leave the more mellow stuff, like this to others. (7/10) CL
FIFTH AMENDMENT: Heave, (One Little Indian) -- Sounds like the group have dissected a Skunk Anansie album and rebuilt this single with their favourite bits. It's a carbon copy from the vocals down to the energy rush of of the chorus. There's nothing original here and the only thing in the band's favour is their good taste in music. (6/10) CL FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD: Two Tribes (ZTT) -- Released to coincide with the release of new Brit Flick There's Only One Jimmy Grimble, this remix has lost none of the original energy. ALBUMS
MANSUN: Little Kix (Parlophone) -- You Know where you stand with Mansun. They describe their third album as "epic, soulful, mournful rock," which just about sums it up. The lyrics are racked with indecision and self-doubt with tracks like Fool, Forgive me and current single I Can Only Disappoint You setting out their stall. Perhaps at times singer Paul Draper bares just a little to much of his soul but maybe that honesty is part of his appeal. Backed by majestic guitar playing from Dominic Chad, Little Kix, has no obvious hits yet is still a classic album. (9/10) CL
VARIOUS: New Woman Summer 2000 (Virgin/EMI) -- Describing itself as an album you can't afford to be without this summer, New Woman Summer 2000 boasts 39 tracks from this year's biggest mainstream artists. From Billie Piper to TLC, Backstreet Boys to Honeyz and Geri Halliwell to Craig David, there are tracks to suit all tastes on here with even Fragma's Toca's Miracle getting a look in for some reason. (7/10) DH
LOUISE: Elbow Beach, (EMI) -- Feisty, sassy and beefy all in one, the album named after the location where Louise tied the knot husband footballer Jamie Redknapp cannot fail to impress. With one hit single already released from the album in the shape of 2 Faced, look out for Egyptian Queen, Bedtime and Beautiful Inside, all songs obviously written from the heart and ones anyone who has ever been in love can relate to.
