PLANS to create a frog pond in a Pendle park failed to make a splash with councillors worried over safety.
The scheme to re-introduce a 3ft deep pond in Alkincoats Park, Colne, was turned down by Pendle Council's Colne area committee.
The idea was suggested by the Friends of Alkincoats Park. The original pond was sited in woodland at the top of the park. It was filled in for an unknown reason around 30 years ago.
The council's health and safety officer Michelle Molloy carried out a risk assessment study of the pond idea and found there was a risk of youngsters drowning, particularly because the proposed site is out of view from the main areas of the park.
"I feel that there would be a high/medium risk of drowning should the proposal go ahead and I can see no reasonably practicable way of removing or reducing this risk to an acceptable level," she said in the report to councillors.
