COLNE skipper Gary Laycock is calling on his side to show their true colours and make a decisive push for the Transco Lancashire League title.

Colne head for bottom of the table Rawtenstall tomorrow just 11 points behind leaders Ramsbottom despite a patchy run of results in recent weeks.

And Laycock believes that the gap can be closed if his side can produce their best form on a regular basis.

He said: "We are in with a shout. We've just got to get some sort of a run together.

"We've been very inconsistent all season so I'm very pleased with the position we're in, with the way we've been playing.

"We're not playing as well as we can. I think we're only firing at about 60 per cent so if we can get that bit extra at this stage it will be vital."

Laycock was delighted with last weekend's two-wicket win over Enfield as they got a thumping by Ramsbottom out of their systems.

Colne have since lost the services of paceman Kamran Farooq, who has taken up a professional post elsewhere, but the skipper remains optimistic about emerging at the head of a wide open title race -- even if a first championship since 1959 would be an unexpected bonus. Laycock added: "Ben Johnson has been a bit inconsistent but if he can just find a bit more form and the amateurs can chip in around him we should be somewhere up there.

"I can see Rammy getting beaten somewhere along the line so that's why we've got to get a run together.

"If we finish in the top three I would be happy. We were at the bottom for five years and since then we've got to two cup finals and won one and had some better finishes in the league.

"If we can do better than that then I would be quite happy, although when you get to this stage it would be nice to win it."

Tomorrow's fixtures: Accrington v Lowerhouse, Burnley v Church, East Lancs v Bacup, Nelson v Rishton, Ramsbottom v Enfield, Rawtenstall v Colne, Todmorden v Haslingden.
