DENTISTS today warned against the dangers of tongue piercing and urged anyone who has one to make sure it is as safe as possible.
Members of the British Dental Association said the group was against the practice and that it was an unnecessary health hazard.
But they urged anyone who has gone ahead or is considering a tongue piercing to make sure it was safe.
Member Kate Cinamon said: "Anyone with a piercing should visit their dentist of advice on hygiene during the time the piercing is healing to make sure it does not cause damage to teeth, speech impediments or become infected."
The group has put together a briefing on the subject which is on their website at www.bda-dentistry.org.uk
