Cambridge United 0, Bury 1
THE Shakers got their new season off to flying start with what turned out to be a comfortable victory at the Abbey Ground.
Cambridge had put the visitors under some early pressure and keeper Paddy Kenny made a couple of smart saves but thereafter the Bury defence was never in any real trouble.
Paul Barnes put the Shakers in front before half time from a goalmouth scramble and should have added a couple more to his tally.
Manager Andy Preece was denied by the U's keeper Lionel Perez as was Adrian Littlejohn in a second half in which Bury could have plundered four or five.
Paul Reid had an effort cleared from the line as Bury never looked in any danger of not claiming all three points in a highly satisfactory start to the campaign.
