POLICE are continuing a search for a hit-and-run driver who left a three-year-old girl with a broken leg and head injury.
Police said they believe Carla Smith, of Hurtley Street, Burnley, ran out into the side of the car -- possibly a taxi -- in Tunstill Street at 4.10pm on Saturday.
She was taken to Burnley General Hospital for treatment and was allowed home yesterday.
Sergeant Russell Gregory, of Colne Traffic Unit, said: "She was out walking with two 15-year-old girls when we think she ran off the path in to the side of the car, which ran over her leg.
"She has gone home with a pot on her leg but she is okay."
The driver of the white four-door vehicle, which had a yellow surround and black writing on the driver's door, was Asian, in his 30s with a moustache, wearing traditional Asian clothes. He was accompanied by an Asian woman also wearing traditional Asian clothes.
Carla's aunt Danielle Riley, 15, was one of the two girls with the three-year-old when the accident happened. She took her home and when they returned the driver had gone.
Anyone with information about the accident should call PC Christopher Edwards on 01282 472542.
