AEROSPACE workers have found the key to the door!
BAE Systems at Samlesbury has just delivered the first Joint Strike Fighter nozzle bay door to America. The door, which is sited near the engines on the aircraft, has been designed, engineering and manufactured by East Lancashire workers. It has to be extremely resistant to temperature and noise and has been made out of sheets of titanium. "The design and manufacture of the door was a real team effort with people from manufacturing technology, materials, structures, tooling and fabrications all playing an import role," said Dave Holmes, Airframe Readiness manager
The door will now be put on display in Texas as part of the contract bid to the US government for the JSF.
