WHILE I feel a great deal for the plight of the allotment holders at Witton, Blackburn having to contend with vandalism and a degree of arson (LET, August 15) the blame should not be laid at the feet of Blackburn with Darwen Council and nor should the financial responsibility for provision of security fencing.
Over the past few years I have taken to these allotments hundreds of pallets and pallet wood and likewise corrugated sheets which could and should have been employed as security fences and fireproofing for the timber buildings, but to no avail.
The secretary requested me to deposit no more pallets at the allotments.
This is a service I gave free of charge without any thanks or even a handful of spuds or a lettuce.
DAVID GEORGE, Downham Street, Blackburn.
