POLICE investigations into a vicious gang rape in a Blackpool hotel room have been halted after the woman suddenly withdrew her complaint.
Around 50 police officers conducted house-to-house inquiries in the Foxhall area of the town throughout late July after the local woman claimed she had been raped by five men.
She alleged a brutal attack took place in a hotel she could not identify after she left the town centre night club Heaven and Hell.
The police were told that she had caught a taxi with a man she had met in the club.
She then said she was taken to a hotel room where she was forced to have sex with five men.
A recording on CCTV camera showed the girl leaving Heaven and Hell nightclub and getting into a taxi with the man in the early hours of Sunday, July 23.
Extensive coverage in the local and national press involved police appealing for the taxi driver to come forward in a bid to pin-point the hotel where the attack took place. The hotel in question was never located.
