BLACKBURN Bridge Club will open its doors next month in its newly refurbished centre.

The club recently moved to the Bridge Centre, Pleckgate Road, and members helped transform the room, which boasts room for up to 22 bridge tables and comfortable chairs.

And during the new season, it will be offering more classes and sessions than ever before.

It will be open from September 7 and lessons have been arranged for Monday evenings at 7.15pm and Thursday afternoons at 2pm.

Lynda Yates, from the bridge club, which has more than 250 members, said: "The new premises were originally built as a car showroom. The buildings lent themselves to be transformed into an ideal bridge club with the large windows allowing plenty of natural light.

"The move has enabled the centre to offer bridge at all standards from absolute beginners to those who have played for some time and wish to play more competitively. Currently nine sessions take place each week, both afternoons and evenings.

"Our new premises also allow those with mobility problems to access the building with no difficulties and the club is also multi-ethnic.

"Bridge is a game for people of all ages, gender and abilities, but one thing is certain, once you are hooked you stay hooked."
