ON Saturday there was an exceptional turnout of members of the Bury Society for the working party held on Parkers Lodge at Elton Vale.

With the aid of two strimmers the heavy bramble growth inside the gates was cleared and the excessive amount of flytipping on the car park disposed of with a bonfire. Bankside willows and bankside paths also being cleared.

Further work still needs to be completed at future working parties.

In the National Team Open held on the Island Lodge last Thursday evening, Roy Gough had top weight 11-1-12. closely followed in second place by John Vernon 11-0-8 and in third place by Steve Kenyon 6-7-4.

Also on Sunday the Annual Cup took place on the Island Lodge with twenty-one anglers participating.

John Fletcher fishing the dam wall peg 17 had a good net of skimmer bream for 19-6-8. In second place Paul Robinson (Hynburn & Blackburn) 15-11-0 peg 31. Third place Jim lMoor 15-9-0 and fourth Graham Smith 14-5-4 peg 23.

In the past fortnight two Embassy Pairs Regional Finals have taken place. In the first fished on the Basingstoke Canal by190 anglers, several from Bury.

Paul White and Boyden Krupnyckji (Fishermans Way) took third pairs place with 485 points to qualify for the final in Denmark.

In the fourth Embassy Pairs qualifier fished on the upper River Nene last Saturday by 340 anglers.

The individual winner Jimmy Hines shattered the five hour river match record and the highest weight in the twenty-five history of the Embassy Challenge with a weight of 226-5-4 together with his partner Garry Whalley fishing for Wigan based Saints qualified for the final W Denmark for the fifth successive year by taking the fifth qualifying place with 485 points.

This coming Saturday the Upper River Nene is the venue for Third Division National Championship.

The next club trip takes place on Sunday August 27 to Conway, to fish aboard Lady Given II for twelve hours wrecking and sailing 7am.

The next club match is the Barry Glover Pairs Match to be held on Cliffe Reservoir on Sunday, August 20, draw 7.15AM, fishing 8am TO 1pm.

Five members of the club joined a charter trip aboard "Garison" skippered by Tony Parry on Sunday, sailing out of Rhyl.

Sailing at 8.30am for a twelve hour wrecking trip. Sailing at 20 miles to fish various wrecks.

Fishing hawkeyes the party accounted for plenty of Pollack, Mackeral, Gunnard, Whiting. Cod 3 to 4lb plus small Codling.

At slack water the party anchored up over the wrecks to capture Conger with several lost but four caught best 22lb together with two Wrays 13 to 14 lbs.

The party enjoyed flat calm conditions with heavy rainfall periods throughout the trip.

The next club match will be Officials Trip. The venue is Cudmore Fisheries and takes place on Saturday, August 26. Names please to Steve Kenyon.
