1977: Elvis Presley was buried in Memphis, Tennessee. An estimated 130,000 mourners turned out for the service to say farewell to the King of Rock and Roll.
1978: History repeated itself for Captain Antonio Misa of the Philippine Airlines, when a bomb ripped a hole in his jet. The bomber was sucked out of the hold by the sudden drop in air pressure, but the rest of the passengers were all unharmed and the plane landed at Manila Air Force base. The amazing thing was that not only had the captain had a similar experience before, but it had occurred in the very same plane.

1736: The earliest successful appendix operation was performed. The surgeon was sergeant surgeon to King George II, Claudius Amyand.
1856: Condensed milk was patented by Gail Borden.
