POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a woman was attacked as she walked her dog over the canal aqueduct in Lancaster late on Sunday night.
The 46-year-old victim was approached by a man at around 10.30pm on the canal towpath.
She was grabbed around the neck and had a hand placed over her mouth but the man ran off after she bit his hand while he was trying to force her to the ground.
Lancaster police are now appealing for witnesses who may have been walking along the towpath at the time.
DS Andy Chambers said: "There were certainly people on the bridge at the time and we would ask the to come forward."
Police have now released an artist's impression of the attacker.
