A TEENAGER depressed after a miscarriage went out shoplifting, but was given a chance by magistrates because of the effect her recent "misfortune" had had on her.
The Burnley bench heard how Julie Anne Rafferty, 19, had helped herself to perfumes and aromatherapy oils from Woolworths and was going to give some to her grandmother as a birthday gift, as she had no cash to buy a present.
Rafferty, of Poplar Street, Nelson, was conditionally discharged for 12 months and must pay £65 costs, after admitting theft.
