A THORNTON soldier is swapping Bosnia for birthday cake this month as he takes a break from his tour of duty to celebrate his 21st back home.
Nicholas Barber has been serving in Bosnia for three months with the Kings Own Royal Border Regiment, Arnham company.
He is based at Catterick in Yorkshire, and went to Millfield High School and Blackpool and the Fylde College before joining the army when he was 17. Nicholas, pictured here out in Bosnia, also celebrated three years in the forces recently.
He turns 21 on August 29 and told the Citizen: "I'm looking forward to cooler weather and some rain after living in 90 degrees of heat for the last three months!"
He also said he was looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a normal car, instead of a Warrior armoured vehicle, and spending some time with his family and friends.
