PAKISTAN'S Independence Day was honoured in special style here in Leigh.
Members and friends of Leigh Ethnic Elders gathered for a double celebration.
Apart from the nation's big day, it was the first anniversary of the forming of a group which seeks to help the town's ethnic community.
LEE was formed at Leigh Pensioners Link twelve months ago.
Now it boasts its own HQ on Church Street, Leigh.
Group chairman Zia Haque, who has worked closely with the Department of Health and Social Services in the venture, said its prime aim was to attract ethnics aged 55 and over.
"We wish to promote social activities, to give them somewhere to come for a chat, just to pop in."
Sundays and Wednesdays are key meeting days, but the Centre is open daily.
Monday's launch day was celebrated with food prepared by top chef Tanveer Ahmed.
