HISTORIAN Alan Davies has been appointed administrator of the Dam House community project.
The ex-Leigh Grammar School pupil and university graduate will oversee the exciting scheme centred on the ancient Astley Hall.
Morts Astley Heritage Trust spokesman Christine Jones told The Journal : "We received over 130 applications for the post and Alan was selected ahead of some high calibre applicants from all over the country.
"He will be administrator and property manager based at the hall and working alongside trustees."
The former Lancashire Mining Museum curator lost his job last month when Salford City Council closed the Buile Hill Park museum. He is expected to take up his post in October.
Following his appointment Mr Davies, who lives in Tyldesley, said: "It's quite an exciting prospect. There is a lot of potential for research. It is a listed building within an ancient woodland. I am looking forward to the work."
Mrs Jones said a considerable amount of work had been done inside Dam House. A lift has been installed and a new staircase fitted. The front of the building has still to be restored.
