RUBEROID Sutton Cricket Club were left pondering what might have been when they played host to Aigburth CC on Saturday.
They won the toss and decided to bat first. Aigburth bowled well and Sutton were in trouble at 67-6 but contributions from Keiron Barr 32, Steve Burrows 29 not out and Ray Foster 11 helped Sutton to 135 all out.
Sutton's opening bowlers Bapa Mukherjee and the youthful Ray Foster soon had Aigburth in trouble but could not get the vital last wicket as Aigburth finished on 100-9 to draw the game.
The Second XI played at Aigburth and were invited to bat. Sutton made slow progress to 184-6 with the highlight of the innings being 96 from Luke Tunstall. Sutton bowled and fielded well and restricted Aigburth to 115-7 to draw. Dave Laithwaite with three wickets and Mark Reynolds and Ste Moss with two each did the damage for Sutton.
