I NOTED the letter from CJ Thomas in your readers column of August 3. It was very interesting as the letter came from a Terry Regan.
Both letters deal with complaints about Blackpool council and while not of a similar nature they do have a common theme.
That is the total ineptitude of this council and its apparent wish to do what it wants in the town, whether the citizens like it or not.
How can any responsible council run a dividing line down the middle of any street when it comes to doling out grants? Talk about divisive!
I know how annoyed I would feel should I find myself in such a position.
Perhaps even more idiotic has been the decision to erect the gigantic road signs such as that mentioned by Mr Thomas near to the Number Three pub -- it is a total nonsense. Moreover, these signs are sprouting everywhere. I along with several neighbours have complained about the proliferation of these monsters in the vicinity of Spen Corner at Marton.
In fact we sent in a joint letter of protest to the council about its lack of consultation with the householders whose properties are overlooked by these far too large signs. The result? We were informed that the council do not have to consult with us.
Whatever happened to that slogan, "Where people come first"? I wonder to which people they are referring?
The signs are dangerous for pedestrians, are ugly, and in some instances block the view of drivers. They are larger than some motorway signs, that is for sure. Just who is advising the Blackpool Borough Council in these matters? Could it be the Millennium Dome Committee or vice-versa?
Mr E Schofield,
Tranmere Road, Blackpool
