THE St Helens Combination's planned 14 team-per-division set-up was fulfilled when new teams Ramford Rangers FC and Owls Nest FC joined Division Two.
Meanwhile, in the North West Alliance Champions Cup Tournament, Carr Mill, Premier Champions of the Combination travelled to Darwen on Saturday to face Blackburn League Champions and holders of the cup - Ewood Rangers.
Unfortunately, the Carr Mill side were desperately under strength. They quickly went behind and at the interval were 0-3 down, after a team re-shuffle, however, they got their act together and gradually got back into the game with first a Steve Pennington strike and then a second goal from Gary Ball, but eventually time ran out with Carr Mill in full charge.
The Combination will kick-off with league games on Saturday August 26 followed by mid-week league games on Tuesday August 29. The Sunday Section, however, will not kick-off until Sunday, September 3, with a Divisional strength of 12 clubs after the demise of Bispham Celtic.
