STAR fundraiser, Michelle Lewis beat the odds to complete her first ever wheelchair half marathon event last weekend, and was first woman home too.
Last week, the Star reported how 18 year old Michelle, from Rainhill, feared she might not be able to enter the race, to raise money for the Merseyside Accommodation Project (MAP) in aid of the homeless. A fortnight before the big day, she was involved in an accident which left her with a mild concussion and wrecked her specially adapted sports wheelchair.
After an urgent appeal, a Liverpool man donated an unused chair which, after a few modifications by Michelle's grandad, Bob, was pronounced roadworthy and Michelle finished the first woman in the wheelchair category in a time of one hour, 42 minutes.
