SINGLES

BRITNEY SPEARS: Lucky, (Jive) - While Britney's records aren't meant to be analysed in depth, it has to be asked whether a song about a rich pop star who is also very lonely is supposed to be autobiographical. Combining elements of her previous hits, this is a track which is distinctly Britney but also distinctly lacking in innovation. A probable number one tomorrow. (7/10) DH

DAVID HOLMES: 69 Police, (Go Beat Records) - David Holmes' latest release is an assault on Moby's firm grip on advertising music . Moving along at speed, due mainly to the groovy keyboard riff, it's a lot of fun and has the potential to shift a lot of cars, if a bit unsatisfying (6/10) MA

DAPHNE & CELESTE: School's Out, (Universal) - There's nothing like being manipulated in the pop world. First the kung-fu popsters of Daphne and Celeste are seen happily supporting Steps, then they find themselves on the main stage of the Leeds and Reading festival. Placed uncomfortably between indie metal act A and Blink 182, the experience should make pair realise it takes more than covering a classic rock anthem like this to be a real pop star.(2/10) CL

BENTLEY RHYTHM ACE: How'd I Do Dat??? - With an outstanding vocal turn from ex-Black Grape rapper Kermit, this tune simply irresistible. A near perfect summer tune. (9/10) CL

ALBUMS

BIS: Music For A Stranger World, (Wiiija) - This six track mini-album by the Glasgow trio is their first attempt at producing their own work. And without the aid the an expert in the studio, their electronic pop sound is less well defined. Well worth a listen, but without a hit single in sight, won't win many new friends. Fingers crossed their next full length album at the end of the year is stronger. (7/10) CL

MADE IN LONDON - A Perfect Storm, (BMG) - More All Saints than Spice Girls, Made in London are a group who take pride in producing loud ballads with hidden meanings. This is certainly an album any holidaymaker should consider taking to listen to poolside, with 'Dirty Water,' 'Shut Your Mouth' and 'We Don't Do No Wrong' all worth special mention. (8/10) DH

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Ayia Napa the Album (Ministry of Sound) - Tipped to be the new Ibiza, Ayia Napa was the place to be seen this summer. It's an island edging towards garage more than trance, and this is an album which reflects that spirit. Fantastic mixing from Shanks and Bigfoot is let down by the fact they use unknown mixes of many well-known tracks. One for the avid garage fan. (7/10) DH
