A GRIEVING mum today told how medics battled unsuccessfully to revive her seven-year-old son after he was knocked off his BMX bike by a car.

Floral tributes and teddy bears today marked the spot where Adam Jackson pedalled out into the road yesterday morning.

Adam, of Waddington Avenue, Burnley, was riding his bike along the pavement in Thompson Street, Padiham, when he is believed to have pulled out into the road between parked cars and was in collision with a Skoda car.

The Brunshaw Primary School pupil was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Burnley General Hospital, where he died in the afternoon.

His mum Diane Jackson said: "When I got to the hospital he was on a life support machine and at first he was responding to medication but then his heart stopped. Six times they tried to revive him. They did a brilliant job.

"All of the children round here are devastated. Adam was a very loveable little boy and everyone liked him. I just can't get my head round it. I just want him back." Diane, who lives with her older son Daniel, 16, who has just left Gawthorpe High School, Padiham, said Adam visited his father Michael Green, who lives in Thompson Street, Padiham, every Sunday.

Diane said: "We went to Benidorm five weeks ago and it was the first time Adam had been on holiday abroad and he loved it.

"He loved school and had never had one day off. He got a certificate for 100 per cent attendance. He was a good lad and always happy."

Adam was a keen supporter of Burnley and Manchester United and also enjoyed riding bikes and playing snooker.

Headteacher of Brunshaw, Neil Tranmer said: "We held a whole school assembly first thing to inform the children.

"It was a very sad occasion. Brunshaw is very much a family and our school family has has a sad loss today. We all feel pretty empty and our thoughts are with his family.

"He was genuinely a very lively and very happy little lad who took great pride in his 100 per cent attendance record."

The Skoda driver, Kevin Hitchen, of Herbert Street, Padiham, was unhurt but was left shaken and upset.

Police appealed to anyone who saw the accident to contact Burnley police station on 01282 425001.
