SURELY, there's a sporting record in this picture sent by villager Alexander Lord of Hoghton Cricket Club's 1950 squad -- one for endurance at the crease.
Alexander tells me the special 50 knocked up by opening batsman Bill Thompson (second right on the front row) was not runs, but the number of seasons he played for the club, serving as a fast bowler and sharp slip fielder.
Others are (Back, left to right): Harry Malley (fast opening bowler, attacking batsman), Geoff Lumb (fast opening bowler, middle-order batsman), H.B. (Tim) Street (opening batsman, off-break bowler), Colin Marginson (swing bowler, batsman), Arnold Huddleston (slow spin bowler, batsman), Joe Noblett (wicket keeper and batsman), Front: Frank Smith (left arm seam bowler), Teddy Farnworth (batsman and spin bowler), Harold Mayhall (change bowler and batsman), Ivor Percival (fielder, bowler and batsman), Bill Thompson and Gerry Mangan (fielder and batsman).
