COMPETITION from other local shows meant entries to Brierfield and Reedley Horticultural Society's annual show wilted.
Organisers were disappointed to see entries were down on last year's event. Part of the blame was laid at the decision to switch Barrowford Show from its traditional spot on the last weekend of the month to yesterday.
Show secretary David Nowell, said: "There are so many shows going on at this time of the year. Many of the people who would come to us normally are going to Barrowford."
An horticultural show in Nelson on Saturday also clashed with the Brierfield event.
"In effect, we are all competing for the same market, so to speak and people can't exhibit in two places at the same time," added Mr Nowell. "The wet weather also affected vegetables in particular."
He pointed out the picture was not all black, with 66 people contributing 550 entries to the various sections.
The show was held at Walter Street Primary School, Brierfield, on Saturday and Sunday.
