HAVING tasted relegation for the first time in his career with Sheffield Wednesday last season, Lee Briscoe is delighted to be following a different blueprint since his arrival at Turf Moor.
The Owls never recovered from a disastrous start as they tumbled out of the Premiership and so the value of Burnley's opening win over Wimbledon wasn't lost on the Clarets' summer signing.
Briscoe said: "It's the lowest point of anyone's career and it's something I never want to go through again.
"Last year we had a bad start. If you can get points on the board early it's very important so I know as well as anyone how important it is to get a win early doors just to get off the mark.
"The early signs are great. We're not getting carried away but I think Bolton and Wimbledon will be two of the stronger sides in the division and we've won one and drawn one so we are pretty confident at the moment."
Briscoe has slotted comfortably into the left-wing back role and almost scored his first Burnley goal when he hit the post in the second half.
He added: "I did try and flash that one across the face of goal, I'll be honest. But if it had gone in I wouldn't have been complaining."
"I also think we had a fair appeal for a penalty but even at 1-0 I thought we were okay.
"They had a little bit too much of the ball for our liking early on but I thought second half we controlled the game better and even though it was only 1-0 I thought it was pretty comfortable in the second half."
