A SWASHBUCKLING tale of romance and adventure was part of an action-packed day as a quite Pendle village burst into life.
As part of its wider Canal 2000 celebrations, Mid Pennine Arts staged a street theatre production during the annual fun day at Salterforth, near Barnoldswick, at the weekend.
A production of 'The Duel' grabbed the attention of swashbucklers and adventurers of all ages as the epic tale of love, betrayal, intrigue and daring was brought to life on the village's playing fields.
The drama was part of a day of fun and games in the village. For the energetic there was the traditional road race up Salterforth Drag to the Fanny Grey pub and back, while others enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the various stalls and games on the field. As well as a bouncy castle and rides for younger visitors, there was music from the Phoenix New Orleans Parade Band and a barbecue.
Children's races and ferret racing attracted the crowds, while local groups boosted their funds by persuading people to part with their cash.
The day finished off in spectacular style with a fireworks display organised by John Stather, landlord of the village's Anchor Inn pub.
The annual event is organised by a committee of local people. Money raised on the day will be shared among local groups. Last year the committee raised £2,500 on top of the money raised by local groups through their own stalls.
