YOUNG people have a golden opportunity to speak out about the issues that concern them in the community.
A special meeting just for youths is being held by the Bury East Area Board on Monday, September 4.
Council bosses worry that teenagers don't turn up to normal meetings to play their part in shaping their neighbourhood.
Councillor Mike Connolly, area board chairman, said: "It is important that young people become involved in the democratic process and help to make the decisions which affect them.
"Issues surrounding young people come up at almost every meeting of the area board but unfortunately we do not always hear their point of view. We want to change that. Hopefully by holding these special meetings we can encourage more young people to attend area boards and help to shape the future of their community."
The meeting begins at 5.30pm in the New Kershaw Centre, with local councillors and council staff present. It will be run just like a usual area board meeting and includes an open forum to allow young people to discuss local issues of concern.
