THE old being swept away for the new!

That's the scene at Crostons Road, Bury, where demolition work is under way to transform what was one of the town's premier industrial sites into a major new redevelopment.

Old factories and units are being knocked down to pave the way for a £6.5 million car showroom being constructed by Dixon Motors.

When completed, the development will create more than 100 new jobs for the town.

The site is earmarked as the major north west Manchester base of Dixon Motors.

Part of the proposals include the relocation of the company's 70-strong operation in Derby Street, Bury, to the new headquarters.

Dixon Motors chief executive Paul Dixon described the Crostons Road ground as "the best site we could find in Bury".

The business has received the go-ahead from Bury planners for a two-storey car showroom, car body repair workshop, 25-metre high security fence and highway access.

The site will signal an enlarged territory which Ford has allocated to Dixon Motors, given the fact Bury is a very important area in terms of the company's plans for north west Manchester.

Crostons Road was identified as a suitable area three years ago after a search by the firm to pinpoint an ideal location for its development.
