AS A Rovers supporter for over 25 years I, accompanied by my family, have just been to pay our respects to Uncle Jack at a dignified and very emotional Ewood Park.

My wife, being a Burnley fan, was by chance wearing her Burnley shirt and no comment was passed by any of the hundreds of fans around the ground. However, on the way back to the car my wife was informed that it was a "disgrace she was wearing a Burnley shirt on such a day."

This comment was not made by a teenage yob but by a woman in her 30s accompanied by a similar aged male.

I know my wife had a great deal of admiration for Jack and his loyalty to his home team club and when she tried to explain she was paying her respects as a football fan the ignorant couple simply walked away without any apology.

On a night of high emotion it is sad that two so-called Rovers fans took the words of Bill Shankly that football is more important than life or death so literally. Such pettiness does nothing to glorify the name of Blackburn Rovers or particularly the memory of Uncle Jack.

While as a family we may have divided loyalties, we are all "united" in respect for Jack Walker.

Thanks for everything Jack, rest in peace.
